Travel across the most symbolic route of Bolivian tourism: Salt flats, islands, cactus valley, Lipez high plains, moun-tains, rivers, lakes, fauna and trails, protected natural area

IMPORTANT INFO

During the rainy season from January to April, the Uyuni salt flat is filled with water, so it is not possible to cross it in the same way as during the dry season. As a consequence, the itinerary is modified during this period. The main changes usually are:

Instead of having a stop on the Incahuasi Island, you will have an alternative stop in a place where the water reflects the sky and you can appreciate the beautiful effect that the sky and the ground merge into one and you seem to float on it.

During the winter season (from June to August), it is not possible to access Eduardo Avaroa national park (red lagoon, dali dessert, green lagoon). However, there is the possibility of visiting black lagoon and rock valley if on the third day of your tour it does not snow. We also may sleep in a different location due to road access.  As it is hard to forecast the weather at high altitudes and due to global warming and it may also snow abruptly.

REMEMBER: It can get very cold, especially during the winter months of June and July, so bring extra warm clothing such as: scarf, wool hat and gloves to keep warm. We also recommend carrying an additional 2 liters of water so you can have enough water for the entire trip.

Important information:

1.-At the improved price that is for a private group, all ticket rates as well as taxes are included.

2.- During the rainy season from January to April, the Salar de Uyuni fills with water, so an alternative route will be provided since that very center of it is flooded.

SUGGESTED PACKING LIST

Sun hat, sunglasses (to protect your eyes from the bright glare off the salt panes), sunblock, coat, gloves, wool hat, trekking shoes, warm socks, swimsuit and towel for hot springs at Sol de Manana Geysers, extra bottles of water (we recommend bringing a 5 Liter bottled water so you can have enough water for the whole trip), snacks, personal medication. Flashlight/torch, camera, extra batteries and memory card, charger (electri-city available in most hotels), hand sanitizer, personal first aid kit. You will be sleeping up to 4,300 meters above sea level and depending on the season, temperatures can drop well below zero (reaching less than -15 degrees Celsius in the winter months of June and July) and the wind chill can be harsh, so bring plenty of warm clothes like a scarf and wool hat for the chilly evenings.

INTINERARY

Day 1 – Full Salt Flat

Leave Uyuni for your Uyuni Salt Flats full day trip Trip (L) Start your tour off at 10:30 am with a visit to Uyuni’s ‘train graveyard’ to see the first locomotives in Bolivia. Then visit the small settlement of Colchani (salt miners workshops next to the salt flats) where you can see handicrafts made of salt and textile art made of llama and alpaca. Take photos as you cruise along the vast white expanse of salt, visit los Ojos de Agua Salada (‘salt water eyes’) and then a hotel made completely of salt which is currently a museum. Lunch will be served on “Isla Incahuasi” (Fish Island) where you will have time to take a hike to the top of the island to see giant cactus and rock formations made of petrified coral. Take time to organize your group for fun perspective and proportion-distorted photos on the blinding white surface of the salt flats. Then, head to a spacious area for the unique experience of seeing a beautiful sunset over the salt flats.
